Rátáil oscailteachta:

This is the results of the noise mapping (round 1) of the major railways carried for the EPA under EU Directive 2002/49/EC. The directive is implemented in Ireland by the Environmental Noise Regulations 2006 (SI 140/2006).

Eolas Dualfhoinse The Envoronmental Noise Regulations 2006 transpose EU 2002/49/EC in full. Environmental Noise is defined as unwanted or harmful outdoor sound created by human activities including Road, Rail, Air Traffic and Industry. These railways fell under the mapping tresholds for major railways as set out in the regulations; 60,000+ train passages per annum. The Major railways were identified as The Red and Green Luas Lines, the Dart Corridor (Howth Junction to Bray) and Heuston - Inchicore. In total almost 55km of track. Iarnrod Eireann and RPA were responsible for the noise mapping and the relevant local authority for the action plan (Dublin City Council, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown and Wicklow County Council). The decibel bands were set out in the regulations. The bands where then used along with census data to calculate the number of people exposed to noise within the different decibel levels. This data was then used to assist in creating Action Plans by the Action Planning Authorities.
