Under the National Emission Reduction Commitments Directive member states are required to monitor (Article 9) air pollution pressures and impacts on sensitive ecosystems. Irelands response to these legislative requirements was the establishment of the National Ecosystems Monitoring Network (NEMN), over which the EPA has a coordination role on the oversight and implementation. This is a points dataset of locations of terrestrial ecological and forest monitoring sites managed within the National Ecosystems Monitoring Network.

Eolas Dualfhoinse Ecological and Forest Surveys, alongside soil and moss collection and analysis, are carried out NEMN terrestrial monitoring sites in accordance with Article 9 of the National Emission Reduction Commitments Directive. The sites are in nutrient sensitive areas. Spatial Accuracy: generalised monitoring point coordinates which are taken from Ordnance Survey Ireland maps are provided to ensure site security.
