The INtegrated Mapping FOr the Sustainable Development of Ireland's MArine Resource (INFOMAR) programme is a joint venture between the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) and the Marine Institute (MI). The programme is the successor to the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS) and concentrates on creating integrated mapping products related to the seabed.

Shaded relief is a cartographic technique that provides an apparent three-dimensional configuration of the terrain on maps and charts by the use of graded shadows that would be cast by high ground if light were shining from the northwest. Shaded relief is usually used in combination with contours.

Provenance information INFOMAR shaded relief data is generated from processing raw bathmetry XYZ using CARIS software. The shaded relief images are created by artificially placing a sun at an angle to the terrain model created from the XYZ values to give light and shade to the terrain and are excellent for showing the texture and general composition be it sediment or rock or the seafloor. The resolution varies between 2 - 100m resolution.
