Open Data Engagement Fund 2016 - And the winners are .......................

I am delighted to report that the inaugural ‘Open Data Engagement Fund 2016’ was a great success with a total of 29 applications received by the closing date of 16th November 2016. 10 applications were received under category A - outreach and engagement activities (training, seminars, workshops etc.), 10 under category B - sponsor the holding of competitions/events to promote open data usage such as hackathons, conferences etc. and 9 under category C - promoting the innovative use of data published on the Open Data portal such as the building of apps, creation of use cases, development of interactive visualisations.
A Selection Committee comprising, Dennis Jennings, Daithí Mac Síthigh and Ashling Cunningham (Open Data Governance Board) and Fiona Morley Clarke (Open Data Unit) assessed each application individually and made a recommendation based on the merits of each application. Subsequently a total of 14 applications were approved for funding/part funding.
Details of the successful applications are set out below. We have asked the successful applicants to report back to the Board on the progress of their project so I look forward to hearing from them in 2017.
