About the Project
This project is not official, but all data is sourced from reputable locations.
Data visualisation and dashboard of openly sourced COVID-19 Data for Ireland. Data is primarily sourced from official Government sources (COVID-19 Data Hub - GeoHive) but also combines mobility data from Google and Apple, stringency index data from Our World in Data and the UK Government's Open Data portal for Coronavirus.
An ancillary Twitter account also posts the latest vaccination and testing data for Ireland each day, as it gets released. This is available at @COVID19DataIE.
Why it's a Showcase
The dashboard goes beyond official government data, it incorporates data from reputable sources like Google, Apple, Our World in Data, and the UK government's Open Data portal, providing a more holistic view of the pandemic's impact. By presenting complex COVID-19 data in a visual and user-friendly format (dashboard), the project makes this information more accessible to the public. This empowers citizens to stay informed and understand the evolving situation.
The project also curates data from various sources, potentially uncovering connections and insights that might not be evident from individual datasets. This approach goes beyond just presenting raw data and helps users understand the bigger picture.
Impact of the Showcase
By leveraging multiple Open Data sources, the project showcases the value and potential of Open Data in public health communication and crisis response. It demonstrates how Open Data can be used to create informative tools that benefit the public good. The dashboard can also raise public awareness about COVID-19 and keep citizens informed about the latest data on cases, vaccinations, testing, and other relevant metrics.
Overall, this showcase highlights the power of Open Data in promoting transparency, fostering public awareness, and informing evidence-based decision making during a public health crisis.
