A Decarbonisation Zone (DZ) is a spatial area, in which a range of climate change mitigation measures are identified to contribute to meeting national climate action targets. DZs are a demonstration and testbed of what is possible for decarbonisation and climate action at a local and community level. Through a feedback loop of experimentation and evaluation, the DZ enables a flexible, incremental and community-driven approach to ensure that its objectives are delivered.Monaghan Town has been designated as the DZ for Monaghan County Council based on its socioeconomic and physical environmental characteristics which have been deemed an appropriate fit against a set of defined DZ criteria.
