Representatives from Ireland’s Open Data Unit in the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Digitalisation and Reform attended the European Data Portal’s Workshop for Data Providers on 3 December in Tallinn, Estonia.

The workshop was organised by the Publications Office of the EU. There were presentations and discussion on the policy landscape in the EU for data and technology, guidelines and best practice on High-Value Datasets, open data maturity assessment process and method, as well as a planned new toolkit for measuring open data impact.

The European Data Portal is a central point of access to European open data from international, EU, national, regional, local and geodata portals - including data.gov.ie. The Portal is intended to:

  • give access and foster the reuse of European open data among citizens, business and organisations.
  • promote and support the release of more and better-quality metadata and data by the EU’s institutions, agencies and other bodies, and European countries, enhancing the transparency of European administrations.
  • educate citizens and organisations about the opportunities that arise from the availability of open data.
