Provenance information The Urban Waste Water Treatment Regulations, 2001 (S.I. No. 254 of 2001) and 2004 (S.I. 440 of 2004), set specific standards to be achieved for waste water treatment plants. In addition, the Regulations set out a mandatory requirement on the water services authority to provide secondary treatment at all agglomerations (towns/cities) with a population equivalent of over 500. An agglomeration is an area where the population and/or economic activities are sufficiently concentrated for urban waste water to be collected and conducted to an urban waste water treatment plant or to a final discharge point. The information is supplied by the Water Services Authority to the EPA on an annual basis. The table attributes contain the plant name, the plant id and EPA reg code if applicable. This dataset shows the agglomerations (towns/cities) with a population equivalent of over 500 where the urban waste water receives no treatment or just basic preliminary treatment.
