Eolas Dualfhoinse | All data has been verified by field survey work and direct observation undertaken by a dedicated and relevantly qualified project team. GPS technology was used to record location co-ordinates for each individual record. Data Capture Method: The collection of data was achieved by a variety of methods including desktop research and direct consultation by the project team with various recognised authorities on Ireland's heritage of trees. Calls were also made via the print and other media inviting members of the public to submit details on trees of heritage interest. All data has been verified by follow up field survey work and direct observation undertaken by a dedicated and relevantly qualified project team. Data Capture Purpose: The objective of the survey was to develop a recording framework and produce a database to locate and record information on trees of heritage importance in Ireland in order to improve the accessability, application and availability of this information for a wide range of uses. It is envisaged that the compiled data will be a valuable aid to a variety of interests towards generating awareness and appreciation of trees and particularly in developing more informed policies about the future management and conservation of Ireland's Heritage Trees. Such interests include local authorities, planners, landscape architects, property developers, environmentalists, communities, conservation groups. It may also include students, dendrologists, botanists, scientists, arborists, foresters, the media – writers & television, and anyone with an interest in trees. Furthermore, Heritage Trees suitably marked on site can be an added attraction for visitors to tourism areas. Original Format: Microsoft Access database |
