Provenance information Each monitored lake waterbody (LWB) is assigned an ecological status by the EPA based on the lowest status for biological status and general conditions. In LWBs where these are both high, hydromorphology is included and if less than high, a LWB is assigned good ecological status. Biological status is assigned based on the lowest status for all the biological elements assessed. These comprise aquatic flora (macrophytes and phytobenthos), fish (assessed by the Inland Fisheries Ireland), and phytoplankton which are all assessed for surveillance lakes. Macrophytes and the chlorophyll a component of phytoplankton are assessed for operational lakes. General conditions comprise general physic-chemical components which are monitored at all lakes and specific pollutants which are monitored at surveillance lakes only along with priority substances. The latter are assessed separately as chemical status. Not all lakes are monitored, and their status is unassigned.
