Provenance information | The Environmental Noise Regulations 2006 transpose EU 2002/49/EC in full. Environmental Noise is defined as unwanted or harmful outdoor sound created by human activities including Road, Rail, Air Traffic and Industry. The Airports were mapped by the relevant airport authority for noise-mapping as part of Stage 1 of the Directive. The Airport came under the mapping thresholds set out in the regulations of 50,000+ take-offs/ Landings per year. Under the Regulations Dublin Airport Authority and Fingal County Council were assigned as Action Planning Authorities for the Airport, as well as Cork City and Borough Council. The decibel bands were set out in the regulations. The bands where then used along with census data to calculate the number of people exposed to noise within the different decibel levels. This data was then used to assist in creating Action Plans by the Action Planning Authorities. |
