National Ecosystems Monitoring Network – Lake Monitoring Sites

Category: Environment
Views: 2
Openness rating:

Under the National Emission Reduction Commitments Directive member states are required to monitor (Article 9) air pollution pressures and impacts on sensitive ecosystems. Irelands response to these legislative requirements was the establishment of the National Ecosystems Monitoring Network (NEMN), over which the EPA has a coordination role on the oversight and implementation.

This is a points dataset of locations of current upland lake monitoring sites managed within the National Ecosystems Monitoring Network.

Provenance information General Chemical analysis of the lake samples alongside moss collection and analysis are carried out at the NEMN upland lake monitoring sites in accordance with Article 9 of the National Emission Reduction Commitments Directive. The sites are located in nutrient sensitive areas, with locations chosen using OSI Discovery Series 1:50,000 maps used as the source. Spatial Accuracy: monitoring point coordinates are taken from Ordnance Survey Ireland maps.
