This data represents a seamless bedrock geological dataset encompassing Rep of Ireland and parts of Northern Ireland derived from 1:500,000 scale data.
This map presents the bedrock data from the OneGeology-Europe map project (www.onegeology-europe.org)
coloured to an Irish lithostratigraphical scheme.
It is an accompaniment to the book "Understanding Earth Processes, Rocks and the Geological History of Ireland".
Colours in the geological time column refer to the chapter colour scheme of the book and the geological unit colours
on the simpler map "Geology of Ireland 1:1,000,000 scale" (2003).
Grey shading joining the unit legend to the time column shows stratigraphical ranges for Ireland as a whole; individual
successions contain many more breaks. Gaps between grey areas indicate that no rocks of that age are preserved.
Geological time column drawn to scale for the Phanerozoic.
