The new Common Fisheries Policy is likely to incentivise uptake of technical solutions to deal with the impending requirement to land catches which were formerly discarded. Recent studies carried out by BIM have demonstrated the potential benefits of quad-rig configurations and large meshed square mesh panels in significantly reducing discards of cod, haddock and whiting in Nephrops trawl fisheries.
