Surface Waterbody Category National Inspection Plan

Openness rating:

This dataset was developed for the National Inspection Plan 2018 – 2021. The aim of the Plan is to protect water and human health from risks posed by domestic waste water treatment systems (DWWTS). It consists of a 5 category map based on river and lake Characterisation for the Water Framework Directive. The 5 categories are based on combinations of the river and lake risk, the identification of DWWTS as a significant pressure and the prioritisation of areas for action. This layer was used in the determination of the risk zones for the National Inspection Plan 2018 – 2021. For further information see the report on www.epa.ie

Provenance information This data is a combination of two geospatial layers – the WFD river water body polygons and the WFD lake water body polygons. The lake polygon layer had a buffer of 200m applied. The characterisation information was used for each polygon layer to give a waterbody category. The polygons layers were intersected and the highest priority waterbody category applied to the intersections.
