Visual Resource Mapping was carried for the Seascapes Character Assessment (2020) project to produce this dataset Land with sea views (LWSV). The data shows how visible a point on land is from the sea. The analysis was carried out for areas 20km inland and offshore up to 35km.

Analysis based on Copernicus EU-DEM v1.1 data. Visual Resource Mapping conducted using methodology outlined in National Seascape Assessment for Wales LUC Report (Natural Resources Wales 2015) and Seascape Assessment for the South Marine Plan Areas (MMO 2014). A grid of observation points was created at 500 m grid point intervals, at height of 2m above sea surface level. Analysis assigns each onshore raster grid a value based on the number of offshore observation points that are visible to it. The higher the number of offshore points that an onshore point is visible to, the higher it’s visibility.

Regional Seascapes Character Assessment (2020) project was carried out by Minogue and Associates on behalf of the Marine Institute.
